Leap day + tea cup candles

Happy leap day! An extra day this year so I'll make it count. On my list for today:
Go for a run, make me a delicious smoothie, give myself a manicure, lay by the pool and enjoy a new book, and browse the thrift store I just saw driving home from the grocery store. More than likely I'll find something i love, buy it, and then donate it when we move again and need to down size... A trait I inherited from my mother.
On another note....
My biff is the bestest.
It seems like she's ALWAYS working on crafts and being creative. As a house warming gift, she made these lovelies for me. She's the best and so are these candles. Cute huh!

Tombstone, AZ

This weekend we took off first thing Saturday morning for a day trip hitting up two tourist towns in southeast, one of which was Tombstone, AZ. We saw a gunshow, ate fudge, had old-time photos done, and walked the strip of old western stores--me in my cowboy boots of course. There's a bunch to do with museums, shows, mine tours, and western resturaunts. We loved it! Yee-ha!
The most famous event in Tombstone's history was the famed Gunfight at the OK Corral, which didn't actually happen at the corral, but in a vacant lot on Fremont Street. On October 26, 1881, members of the "Cowboys" had a run-in with Wyatt, Virgil and Morgan Earp with help from Wyatt's friend Doc Holliday. 24 seconds and 30 shots later, Billy Clanton, Tom and Frank McLaury were mortally wounded. In many peoples opinion, it was this one event that has kept Tombstone alive for all these years. (via tombstoneweb.com)

Fantastic Friday

I think dancing on Fridays will be a new ritual of mine. Maybe turn on some Hall & Oats and dance freely around our small apartment. This morning on the news they had a friday dance segment and I actually danced along in my chair as i was eating breakfast. What a great way to start the weekend am I right?

After the husband's busy work week, I'll have him all to myself on our weekend getaway! Muahahahah!

banana oat muffins

Love these! Made them 2 weeks in a row because it's an easy healthy recipe that tastes really good. The hubby eats them for breakfast on his way to work so they're nice to make a batch and have for the work week.

3/4 cup all purpose flour
3/4 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup rolled oats
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp baking soda
1 egg
3/4 cup skim milk
1/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 cup mashed banana- the more brown, the better
1/2 tsp salt

Combine dry ingredients together in one bowl, wet in another. Mix both together and scoop into sprayed muffin pan. 400 degrees for 20-30 min. You want them golden brown.
* I skipped on salt and did a little less white sugar. Feel free to add cranberries, raisins, chocolate chips, almonds etc. Get creative! Enjoy!

San Felipe- Part I

Last weekend was spent in beautiful San Felipe, Mexico with my biff and her family. They have a beautiful home over looking the Sea of Cortez one one side and humbling mountains on the other. We slept on the roof one night under the millions of visible stars and were mesmorized by the vibrant sunsets. By day we were soaking up the sun, eating, shopping, eating, laughing, and more eating. The amount of eating should have been down right illegal.
Ever been to a panaderia in Mexico?
If you have, you might have an idea of what I went through this weekend.
If you haven't, don't go. You'll eat way too much and go into carb and sugar overload.
Oh what the heck, just go. It's worth it.
Karn really wanted to make a trip to get her some sweet bread. We went to one on our first day. I thought we were going to go in and pick out one thing each. Nope. Whatever looked pretty or smelled good, we bought one. Paid, ran outside, and devoured. Second day, we hit up another one and once again, picked out more than needed, ate more than needed, and had a well-deserved upset stomach. Our last day, headed to the border, we had to make one last stop. Ridiculous right?

Mrs. Nurse again

Tonight i start my new job. 9p-9a 3 nights on, 3 nights off. I've never had to do night shifts so anyone who has worked a job working graveyard shifts, shed some light this way of how to make it work. Thanks....
should i be sleeping right now? Yes. I slept in till 9 this morning which was huge for me. I'll try and nap later but that will be a failure before i even try. On a brighter note:

I'm really excited to be starting this new job. It never fails in life that it works out how it's supposed to. I've worked in the operating room with a few side jobs here and there, but this will be providing a new area in my career with home health. My patient is a quadriplegic woman and although her situation is not ideal, i feel like this can be a positive experience for the two of us. A wise person told me (ok, my mom) that people come into our lives for a reason and this job may be an opportunity to learn from each other and see the blessings in our lives through whatever obstacles we face.

I really want to be someone who sees the good in everything and shows gratitude for all aspects of my life. Today I'm grateful for my new job and the opportunity to keep learning new things even though I'm out of school. Wonderful Wednesday.

Returned from my relaxing trip safely a few shades darker and had a wonderful suprise from my husband this valentines morning. I can't wait to share because i know it's something NO ONE ELSE received. My husband is so creative...
I have so many pictures to upload and a lot of catching up to do. I'll save that for another day. Today is a recovering day after my weekend vacation because I start a new job tomorrow night! I've been a nurse for 4 years now and i've never had to work a night shift. Well, that's all about to change.
For now, I'll enjoy my last full day off and will be doing some serious baking for the husband. And by serious baking I mean, baking my cookies that have everything in a kit. It's the thought that counts. :)

my mom's dogs.
they're precious right?
especially shiloh, who's giving me the eye like, "Watchya looking at punk???? "

weekend trip

Spending the weekend with my biff (and her family).
Lets just say, we'll be able to reenact this picture. Happy weekend y'all!!!

Feb 9, 2012

another birthday, shout hooray

two important times in my life:
february 9 1988- my biff's day of birth
and 7th grade show choir- when our friendship first blossomed.

Karn has been the ultimate best friend and i know we will be best friends forever. We've already decided we'll live in the same retirement community. We're planners ok? and not that we wish upon our spouses to pass away before us, BUT, if they happen to do so, her and i will be roommates of course.

So many memories, and the best are yet to come with her.
Happy 24th Birthday Karn!
You're getting old like me now. :)

help for dressing your man

my hubby is a t-shirt and jeans guy. he's in construction management so wearing dress clothes is unrealistic and unsafe for the clothes itself. After discovering this site, i might make him dress-up more on the weekends.

Introducing Trunk Club.....Hand-selected outfits shipped to your stinkin door people!!! this is beyond the coolest thing ever and if your hubby has got some style, or needs some style, this is the way to go. I thought this was such a good idea i had to share. (*this site is for guys only, sorry ladies.)

Go to Trunk Club and tell them what you're looking for. They have experts who will HAND-PICK outfits, put them in a "trunk" and ship them to you. He decides what he wants and what he doesn't, and then ship back what you don't want. They charge you for what you keep. :) I would be more excited if they had this for women. If you find it, tell me!

Sedona

What a gorgeous gorgeous city. Sedona, Arizona. Ryan and I went with my parents for the weekend. My mom ran the Sedona run, ran the 10k, and kicked butt! 7th in her division. She rocked.

2 things I've been grateful for this weekend:

1. God's creations. There's something about the world around us and how beautiful it is. Sedona reminded me of Moab with the red rocks and blue skies but still unique in its very own way. It's breath taking. We took a beautiful drive and walked around Slide Rock. It's amazing to see this world and all it has to offer. Very humbling.

2. My mother. She has become a running machine and she's been such an example of taking care of our bodies and exercising. I've seen her dedication pay off and I'm grateful to see her accomplishing all that she does.
