Our Hunter

If we had to survive off of Ryan's catches from spear fishing, I know we could survive. Yes, there wouldn't be much to eat, but I'm sure we could survive.

La'ie Falls- First of many hikes

We thought we could start doing a hike a week.... but maybe that's too much. From past experiences, we should really not set our goals too high. But heck, maybe 2011 will be different right? We hiked La'ie Falls, which surprisingly doesn't have any water falls, bummer. And on top of that, we went the day after it had been raining. Since the mud was caking onto the bottom of our shoes, we were able to get some natural leg weights for a more intense workout.

i know i know, not much of a scenery picture

Right before the trail head you pass by this persons driveway. Walking up to it you're thinking it must be a joke. People don't really put signs up saying they will shoot you.... do they? Yes. There are people here who are angry at the Americans for taking their land. You can tell who they are real quickly when their whole driveway has a row of warnings. My favorite? IF YOU'RE NOT BLOOD, YOU WILL BLEED!!!!!!

Over the rainbow

We do have a piano in the house. It's huge and I look at it and think, I really miss playing the piano. I worked with Rita today and thought I would play for her. Turns out half of the keys get stuck and it's way out of tune. So I just played one hand and as I was playing a few Christmas songs, Rita started to sing. It was the sweetest thing to hear. She told me she was sorry for not having a nicer piano for me to play on. I just told her it was perfect because I was able to hear her sing more.

We sat and talked and she sang Over the Rainbow to me. I played this version for her by Isreal Kamakawiwo'ole. Click on link below.

Ready for my triathalon

Ok no. i'm not doing a triathalon. but this evening was amazing. Jeri and I went in our back yard (the ocean) to go swimming. Our backyard has the coral reef so we had to walk out a ways to start swimming. (note to self: buy water shoes). my feet were killing me!
seriously.
i was slowly dying from pain.
we swam over to kailua beach (only after gashing my foot into a rock and cut the top of my foot) THEN ran down a few miles to the beach park. I know what you're thinking. we are hardcore. and yes, we are.

Came back and had dinner with Rita. I had to pick out the black beans from the mexican rice. (note to self: she doesn't like to eat anything black- i should really get a note pad to keep track of this stuff)

a sticker doesn't cut it at the dentist office

so we had to take Rita to the dentist today. she had a dang cavity that needed fixin. They came back to tell us she was done and we went back to see her. I found the pile of stickers and thought i would put one on her to make her smile  :)  .... little did i know  : /

we put her in the wheel chair and  i told her that since she was such a good patient she got a sticker. i put it on her blouse before showing her. [oops.] she asked what it said and before i could answer she said "does it say i don't have to ever come back here? " yes rita i replied.
 .
paid for her cavity and asked to for a smile to see her beautiful teeth. she closed her eyes and gave a big sarcastic smile (the type of smile you give someone when you don't want to smile and it's like. "FINE! see? a smile. happy now?"). Thanks Rita. Now let's get the heck out of here shall we? She laughs. I laugh.

and we call these people our friends?? :)

We have been staying with Christal and Daniel this past week in La'ie. They moved here last July to go to school at BYU-H. Here's one of their blogs that i thought was hilarious and sadly true.

House Guests Who Never Leave.

Our friends Ryan and Elizabeth are here in Hawaii "visiting."  What we thought would be a two week visit turned into a four month stay.  Luckily they won't be living with us for that whole time. JK...we totally love having them here!! We have been looking forward to having them come since April. They actually bought their plane tickets to Hawaii before we did. I guess they were more serious about it than we were.

Elizabeth recently got a job as temporary nurse assistant for an elderly woman who lives here on the island. They were so excited for the opportunity to move to Hawaii, and so were we! Perfect timing right? Now we won't have to say our sad goodbyes so soon.

thank you technology. watching movies on an 8 hour flight.

Okay, so Ryan and I can finally start writing on our blog now that we have gotten to Hawaii!!! We are so excited to be here after waiting a few months to tell our family and a few months to actually leave.

PLANE RIDE
We had a rough start with our travels when we got to the airport at 7am and found out that there was a schedule change to our flight and it was actually leaving at 7:30!??? What? No one told us that... punks! Anyway, they were able to get us on another flight from phoenix to salt lake to honolulu and thanks to technology, the trip went by fast because I was able to watch Salt and Charlie St Cloud while Ryan played video poker.

After our long flight, Jeri (one of the other caregivers) picked us up from the airport. and yes, she had given us leis and only then did it feel like we were in hawaii.

On our drive to our new house and the drive was so beautiful. Green EVERYWHERE.

When we got to the house, we were finally able to meet Rita. The wonderful lady we were here to help take care of. What a hoot. I don't even know where to begin. Rita is the cutest lady with a great sense of humor. She's one of those ladies you could sit down and talk with for a long time just to hear what witty comment she has to say next.

Rita asked us where we came from and when Ryan said he was from colorado, her reply was " you're lying through your teeth." Turns out she's from Colorado and went on talking with Ryan about where she grew up.

All of the caregivers (aka Rita's girls) came over and had cooked us a dinner. We are all sitting around the table when Rita said, "I'm sorry to interrupt and change the subject but i just noticed that the one of those light bulbs is burnt out." We told her that's what Ryan was here for. To change all the light bulbs in the house. And once Ryan did so she said, "I guess we can keep him then." She went on to say that he has nice teeth and straight ears,  I guess that means he's good looking then. :)

Our New Home:
So our house is seriously on the beach. Our bedroom window has this amazing view and it's like, really? People actually have a view of the ocean in some of their homes? The past year living in Utah the only view we had out of our apartment was another apartment. lame. Ryan and I are one side of the house and Rita and Jeri are on the other. The living room and kitchen are in the middle of the house. We have a huge front yard with palm trees and flowers. and like i said before, everything is so GREEN!!!!

We were there just for the night and we took off on the bus the next morning up to La'ie to meet up with our friends. Here's a picture of a palm tree that is apparently popular. Someone said it's on some of the hawaiin postcards.

I thought this sign was comical. i felt like it was telling me... you will get swept out and die. maybe  i'm just over thinking it.

B-e-a-utiful flowers

Dont' we look so happy? Just waiting for the bus. But we're happy.

Look at our christmas tree. i really thought it was fake but it is real. i promise. it came out of the backyard.

La'ie LDS Temple

Our friends live right next door to the Hawaii LDS temple. So the two pictures i have of the temple below are taken at different times.  For those of you who have seen the movie Yes Man, I did one of those photography runs where you take random pictures of what you see on your run. So the bright sunny picture of the temple was earlier that morning.

The sister missionaries are great photographers right?

Aloha Kailua!

Here we go....

Ryan and I aren't much for blogging. We don't find our lives that interesting and so why would anyone want to read what we are doing. I mean, there isn't much to write when our lives consist of waking up together, eating breakfast together, leaving the apartment to go to work together, having dinner together, watching TV together, and (for the sake of our parents possibly reading this) we shower separately before going to bed and repeating the glorious cycle again.

Well for anyone who does not know yet... Ryan and I are moving to HAWAII! and what better time than now to finally create a blog for everyone to follow our adventures.

So here is how it all began....

Ryan and I were planning on returning to Rexburg this December for him to start school after finishing his internship here in Utah. I have been looking for an apartment on the school bulletin when I fell upon a posting from a faculty member looking for a nurse to care for her mother living in Hawaii. I emailed her asking her some more questions and, after finding out more, knew right away this would be awesome!

We went up to Rexburg and I had an interview with her. Within a week she asked us if we would both like to go down. Heck yes! :)

Coincidently, we had already planned a trip to Hawaii in December, SO we changed our return flight from the end of December to April. (who knows though, I might be asking Ryan to transfer down there once April rolls around.) Now here we are... selling what we can, taking what we can't to the D.I. and packing up what's left to take down to Oahu!

We will be living in a house...on the beach I might add...

Lanikai Beach, Hawaii

After a year of working we need a few months in Hawaii to lower our high blood pressure, catch up on some sleep, and soak our Vitamin D deprived bodies with some Hawaiin rays :) Ryan says it's a gift for our hard work this past year. Oh Ryan......
